Kerala the land of natural beauty and rich culture offers a lot of magnificent views to its visitors. The state's diverse topography coupled with its unique culture and heritage make it worth visiting at least once in a lifetime.

Kerala tourism is so famous because unlike other tourist destinations that are seasonal the state has got something or the other to offer to each and every traveller. The place has got enchanting backwaters for all seasons, beautiful beaches for the winter, spectacular waterfalls for the monsoon, and alluring hill stations for the summer.

The peak tourist season in Kerala is from October to February. During this period the climate is pleasant and cool and these months are perfect for sightseeing. Though these months are blessed with sunny days, the humidity will be low and the occasional drizzles would keep the temperature cool but never chilly.

During these months you could visit the backwaters of Alappuzha. You could enjoy this enchanting water world in a hired houseboat or in a country canoe. As the boat takes you through the tranquil waters the cool breeze will sooth you taking away all the worries of your hectic life.

You should also visit the incredibly beautiful paradise called Kumarakom that is located about 32 km from Alappuzha and about 15 km from Kottayam district during this period. This little cluster of islands is very picturesque. The thick mangrove forests, coconut groves, the vast greenery and paddy fields along with the backwaters make the place an enchanting destination.

The Kollam district in the southern Kerala is also a good place to enjoy the famed backwaters of Kerala.

Another place to visit during this season is the commercial capital of Kerala - Kochi. This beautiful place with one of the best natural harbours in the world offers a lot to its visitors. Tourist places in and around Kochi include Bhoothanthankettu Dam, boating through the backwaters, Thattekad Bird Sanctuary, Paniely Poru, Mattancherry Palace or Dutch Palace (constructed in 1557), Jewish synagogue in Mattancherry ( built in 1568), Hill Palace Museum (built in 1865), Willingdon Island (the largest artificial man-made island in India), ecologically sensitive Magalavanam and many more.

This season is also good for a dip in the ocean and the numerous beaches of Kerala would help you quench this temptation. As Kerala is bordered on the west by the Arabian Sea the state is blessed with many stunning beaches and the most famous of them all are Alappuzha, Marari, Cherai, Varkala, Kovalam, Kollam, Muzhappilangad, Snehatheeram and Payyambalam beach. The climate will be perfect for a sun bath as the tropical sun would give your skin a beautiful glow.

The period between March to May is the summer season in Kerala. The temperature will be high with humid weather conditions. But even then the climate won't go over 40-degree celsius. The occasional downpours will provide some respite from the scorching heat.

This is the best period to enjoy the hill stations of Kerala. The cool climate and mountain breeze of these hill stations will provide a great relief during the summer. Munnar, Vagamon, Wayanad, Neliyampathy, Thekkady, Ponmudi and Gavi are the most popular hill stations in Kerala.

From June to September is the monsoon season in Kerala. Unlike many other places in the country, the Kerala monsoon hardly causes any havocs and it is also a time when the landscape that is blessed with scenic beauty and greenery comes alive. The monsoon season in Kerala has a romantic touch to it, the numerous rivers will be full and they will bring full glory to the various roaring waterfalls of the state.

Athirappalli waterfalls about 57 km from Ernakulam and about 54 km from Thrissur is the most spectacular of all. The waterfalls that cascade down at a height of 80 ft provide a majestic view and is best visited during the monsoon season. About 5 km from Athirappalli is another visual treat Vazhachal falls. Both these waterfalls are surrounded by lush green forests that add to their charm.

Monsoon is also a great period to have an adventure white rafting trip through the rapids of Tejaswini River in Kannur district.

It is also a period to have some Ayurvedic rejuvenation treatments and where else other than Kerala could you find the best therapies. The state has various authorised Ayurvedic spas and hospitals that provide the treatments.
